Evaluation : Question 1

I would agree that my project looks like a music magazine because in some ways it conforms to the conventions of a music magazine. This means including headlines, sell lines, page numbers, main images and sub-images etc. However my front cover subverts the conventions of 90's music magazines such as word up, tiger beat and vibe magazine which mostly includes male artists as the main image on their front covers. In the 90’s, the music industry was mostly dominated by male artists such as Biggie, Tupac , Snoop dog , N'SYNC and Backstreetboys etc. I have subverted that convention by using a female as my main image on the front cover of the magazine.

I have researched and used professional magazines such as word up, tiger beat and vibe magazine as a guideline to create my 90's themed music magazine. My music magazine clearly fits into the music genre which is 90s contemporary R&B. By looking at my magazine it is clear what genre of music is shown because I have made the photographs look very retro and "old skool”. The models in BackT90' magazine revive the 90s fashion trends by wearing baseball caps in different positions , bomber jackets , hoodies , sunglasses , chains and baggy clothing .In addition to this the models who are presented as music artists pose in a 90's way , having serious facial expressions and having leaned or strong posture which suggests their passion and seriousness for music. The photographs were edited by decreasing brightness and shadows and also by increasing the contrast and highlights to create an urban 90's feel.

The layout of BackT90' magazine is quite organised making it easy for readers to navigate through the pages. This however subverts the conventions of a 90's music magazine such as Word up magazine because usually the layout is very messy with images scattered in different places . This shows the rebellious side of the 90's"
